Learning how to work through your overwhelming thoughts can help you prevent destructive decisions.
The moment we understand that we are not our thoughts, is the moment we take control of the battle and win.
It becomes too easy and convenient for us to believe that we are what our thoughts convince us of. Our brains become easily overwhelmed when we expect one thing and feel another. Negative thoughts will always come and go. The important piece to remember in this scenario is how we engage and observe those thoughts. Whichever narrative we allow ourselves to believe is the narrative that will end up growing.
There are so many scenarios I can remember where I felt as though I had zero control over my thoughts, which was a scary feeling to have. I so easily convinced myself that I wasn’t this and I wasn’t that. I let myself believe no one cared about what I had to say and or no one would understand the feelings I was feeling, because even to me, I couldn’t even understand. I allowed myself to dissociate until I physically and mentally could no longer function. Where the only thought I even had was ending it all, because in my head, that was going to solve all of my issues. I would continue on until it felt as though I did not have enough hair for me to pull out. I became easily triggered, extremely emotional and was left with this person who I did not know or understand. All of this was due to the simple fact that I did know or care to know how to process these overwhelming thoughts and feelings.
The day we learn how speak to ourselves in a nurturing way, is the day we slowly begin to eliminate the bad habits of constantly tearing ourselves down. We are not idiots, we are not stupid, ugly, fat, too this or too that. We are simply human. A human who does their best day in and day out. Some days may result in failure and others may result in success. No matter the result we get, we still wake up the next day and continue moving forward. We become what we convince ourselves we are. Give yourself some grace and convince yourself that you are capable of living the life you want to live and being the person you want to be.
What steps will you take to engage in your negative thoughts and turn them into a positive outcome?
