The outer workings of life do not hold a true representation of the person that lives within them. An individual’s true worth comes from how much they believe in the things that live inside of them. The most unique elements that we are born with are the ones that fill our lives with the vibrant colors that our heart and soul pours out.

I learned the importance of living with transparency during a time when my demons wanted to protect my addiction’s worst moments. My habits had created a consistent way of quietly destroying things while I did everything that I could to create better days. I watched as my colors began to fade and I continued to take part in the things that caused life to seemingly wither away. I did not understand how a human with such promise could become so lost in such a rapid fashion. I gained the courage to remove the sadness from my life when I got tired enough to not want to live with it anymore. We cannot see things for what they really are if we continuously cast a shadow on them with our actions.

Living life without meaning is equivalent to making a promise without a follow-through. To see our true colors we must remove the habitual shell that we have built over time that blocks them. Change is uncomfortable and transparency can make you feel unguarded at times. Finding ways to remain hopeful comes from finding our way through uncomfortable moments and making the most of what it took to get through them.
